I DID IT!! As the end of my interim position loomed ever heavy, I was officially today offered a permanent position with the organization. TA DA – please welcome the new “Marketing Director” of the Vancouver Farmers Market. I was given an offer of a wage increase, health insurance stipend and a full month of personal time off (plus little goodies like a telephone and fax). And, all very nicely fit around whatever schedule I need for my college work.
I am grateful, happy, scared, captivated, etc.
Of course I told them that I had to sleep on it. (As if . . )

just finished my first two weeks on the new job, and I gotta say it’s going to be pretty terrific. There’s a little more politicking than I care to be involved in, so if I just stay out of the fray on that end it should work out good. People have been lobbying a little bit to see if I will camp, but now that I see that for what it is, I am officially detaching (as I write this!) With that proclamation I can now shift my focus toward how I can best contribute to the organization. Good. Then I should start with exploring how I can contribute first to logistic and administrative soundness.

It's Official!!! 4 years ago

The board of directors offered me a 3 month interim position to see how we fit. When I showed up for the meeting today I was ushered in, people were waiting to see me, I was taken to lunch and offered a deal. They are being more than accommodating with my schedule at university, paying me well and excited about what I can offer the organization. I have 3 months to bring it on home. I’m overwhelmed, grateful, excited, and proud of me.
Even though it is still several years away from getting to my ultimate after college choices, I will be doing work in the meantime that I LOVE. Where I am respected, valued and appreciated. Wish me luck in turning the position into a long-term groove.

OH MY GOD!!!! 4 years ago

I took such a huge, uncomfortable risk and THEY CALLED!! I am so overwhelmed at the moment. I approached the organization I WANTED to work for, about creating a position for me tailored around my skills, strengths, etc. and they want to see me to KICK AROUND THE OPTIONS. Nothing etched in stone yet, but the potential is looking pretty awesome. Took a risk, offered a win-win proposal and they LIKED IT. I am happy, happy, happy. :D

knowing what that is, is only the first step. While I was pulling out every ounce of courage I could find this morning to communicate with an organization I love, about creating a position for me – I ran across my horoscope for today:

A long while back, you discovered that the best way to make something as ethereal as a dream turn into reality is to tackle it practically and realistically. That means you’ve got to work very hard now to make your current fantasy come true. You’re ready, willing and able, but you may not be entirely confident that you can make it come about. Stop that. You can, and you know it. Doubt is fatal to power. Get going, and don’t stop until you’re there.

Wow. I took that and ran with it and sent off my proposal. Either way it goes, I am proud of me! And now I know that I can do it again if need be.
