I’ve spoken to many people online since first getting a glimpse of ‘teh Intarwebs’ almost a decade ago; but I’ve met exactly none of them in real life.
Some time ago I thought I’d never upload a picture of myself to the Web, or use my real name online, let alone contemplate meeting some of the people behind the Internet personas that may as well be IM chatbots (albeit with social lives and emotions). But here I am with Facebook as my browser’s homepage, using my real name and picture, and I am quite addicted to the social aspect of it – checking it every so often as in days of yore with e-mail and static HTML-based chat rooms.
So now the next step is meeting some of the people I still keep in contact with and actually count as ‘friends’. One of whom is making great forward-thinking plans in their life which is as good an excuse as any, forgiving the trans-Atlantic airfare.
