Basically, this is a framework for playing scrabble which encourages players to make up words and try and pass them off as actual words. Aside from Scrabble, it incorporates aspects of Bullshit and Balderdash.
The variation is thus:
Prior to game, players will agree on what actual words are acceptable. This could be broader than the usual convention of any English word that is not a proper noun, abbreviation, or slang. For example, you could choose to allow certain kinds of proper nouns, or include words from certain other languages. Then, find some source to check against that would include these things.
During gameplay, if you attempt to bullshit, you put your word down as normal. If no one challenges you, you’re home free and will get an additional 20 points at the end of the game (per bullshit word) upon declaration.
Challenges have two levels. There’s the casual challenge, in which another player asks you to define a word you’ve put down. If you can’t readily define the word, they’ll likely issue a formal challenge. This is much like calling bullshit. In this case, you must look up the word in your agreed-upon resource. If it’s not there, the bullshitter loses points equal to what that play would have earned them and the current turn. If it is there, the challenger loses the same number of points the play is worth.
If you play, let me know what you think. If you want to play it with me, let me know.
