it was goood. it didn’t shed any new light about the mystery of the Tsimtsam though that disappoints me so.
i found some parts of it boring, maybe because i was less imaginative on how the boat looks like and how unfamiliar I was to the things in it.
if this were made into a movie, it would all sum up to this:
curious guy willing to take 3 religions at a time, family migrates to canada but boat sinks, luckily got into a safety boat but shares it with a hyena, a zebra, an orangutan and a tiger. (WARNING SPOILER!) all animals die but the tiger, ate raw meat, like fish and turtle meat just like an animal, then some of tiger poo, then some human meat from a french cast away, gets into a strange island made up of algae, trees and a whole lot of little rodents with fresh water to boot, but leaves island due to man eating algae. hopefully survives at a gulf in mexico, but ricard parker gets away and was never seen ever again, the book ends with 2 japanese guys’ interview which was witty and funny to some extent.

I didn’t enjoy the part where the three religious heads went into fiasco trying to elucidate what better religion should Pi choose. I mean, sure it’s witty and quite amusing but not that it’s bland, it just didn’t strike me that well. Probably because i’ve already had it in mind plus, the whole Hindu thing bores me. The same reason why i didn’t finish the Ramayana in the first place.
I’m half way through reading the book, mind you.
It always intrigued how women are going to survive without pads or tampons. I mean, to be stranded in the middle of the ocean, blood leaking out of you will just attract sharks. It’s quite unfair when pads aren’t included in survival kits or something. It just bothers me so much how bloody and unsanitary things could get.

I’ve read a fifth of the book and loving it. Sure, the introductions were a bit bland. But I love the part where the title character discusses about the meaning of freedom amongst animals living in a zoo. Ofcourse i’ve thought about it but i’ve never read/known anything about it described in such a way Martel could have written it.
I’ve read reviews and it always says that the story can make you believe in God, again. Well, all I’m after is the story, knowing that I’m not religious person, even if i belong in a very religious and yet something else heritage.

sometimes it feels much more refreshing to be in a bookshop than a dress shop. It somehow makes me feel a bit more happy there.
