always trust my intuition

After my breakup with my ex, my friend gave me the advice “follow your heart, trust your instincts!” I did just that and went to apologize to my ex for my wrongs in a serious remorseful way, but my insticts were apparently off, because she might have as well as chopped my head of with a chainsaw. I felt so bad for a while thinking that I did something wrong by trying to apologize to her. I guess I might be better off doing exactly the opposite of following my heart or trusting my instincts. I would like to always trust my intuition, but not when it gives me a failing grade!
