earn my income as a freelance writer

to hear anything back in response to my last two pitches. haven’t had time to craft the third.
in the meantime, my latest article just came out and it looks so great. it was slightly edited but nothing dramatic. exciting!

pitched another story to the only magazine I’ve written for before, really. but the magazine has recently undergone a makeover and has a new editor and is thus becoming a much more prestigious one to write for. hopefully the new editor will bite, which means another writing opportunity and a little bit of money that would be sooooo helpful with all that’s on the horizon.
my next step is to investigate and pitch to a new publication. and I think I have an idea for that.

as uneventful as it ultimately was, I nearly forgot to say that I mailed my first official query to a major magazine! no small feat. I think I will continue to write them, just one at a time, since each is a little different and requires all this freaking research, etc.

I really want to send two query letters tomorrw. I’m almost done with them, I just need to take the final steps.

but now I’m rethinking my query letter…
one step at a time, I suppose.

while I was away, I did some research by checking out various magazines. I think I will probably need to pitch to each one by one, since the requirements are so diverse. but I will make a list and start hacking away.

finished a freelance story for a magazine today, and turned it in.
this is my third time writing for this publication, but it’s the best story I have done for them thus far. good work!

I didn’t finish my queries because each one is different and they take a lot longer than you would think. but little by little, I am chipping away – today, I gathered some clippings from one of my best stories. when I get back I think I’ll make some smaller goals towards this one.

too many goals at once? maybe. but this actually fits in with everything else, so I’m adding. I have only freelanced a small amount. but I don’t need to be a rocket scientist to figure out that if I could get a couple more gigs like that per month, I could make the exact same salary I am now, while doing waaaaaay less work. I love this idea, and not just for the obvious reasons. if I could expand my freelancing, it could really allow me to have some sort of stability when I quit my job and buy the bakery next year.
next weekend, I plan to write and submit 5 query letters.
