When I watch stuff on Newgrounds, I often think “I could do that”, or sometimes “I could do better than that”. I’m fine with drawing and other basic Flash operations, it’s just making things move that I need practice with. Well, that and any ActionScript I’d need, and then I’d still have to write out the plot and such. Of course, with my current Sonic obsession (which doesn’t seem to be holding up), whatever I do will probably end up being related to that… but that’s not necessarily a bad thing; there aren’t enough serious Sonic anims out there (especially ones that aren’t just silly DBZ-type fighting), and I have trouble writing comedy.
First thing’s first, though: I have to learn to animate. Start small, simple motion tweens/frame-by-frame etc, then slowly build up from there. Eventually progress to walk/run cycles, special effects and so on.
Other things to do:- Find some good books/websites on animation principles and cartoon physics
- Mess around with ideas for plot/characters/etc
- Consider buying the new CS4, with its inverse kinematics
- Clean up my PC, so Flash will run better :P
