get out of debt

Am on my way to clearing my debt now. Just received £5000 back from my house which, god knows how with the housing crisis at the moment, I managed to sell. Should be able to pay off overdraft plus a few other loans. which means I have left:

Credit card 1 £5500
Credit card 2 £250
loan £1500
total: £7250

I also have a car and student loan, which I pay off in instalements. Living back with my folks now so should clear this all in one year I reckon. If there is anyone reading this who is tempted to get into more debt – my advice would be, unless it is essential, don’t. Living a life in debt is no fun at all and I reckon there are going to be some tough times ahead financially.
It is astounding to see the numbers on the ‘get out of debt’ goal increase by the week. It seems that it is not just people in England who have spent beyond their means.

I realised about a year ago that, in order to acheive the peace of mind and control in my life that I was after, I would need to get a handle on my finances and get out of debt. I tried the ‘burrying head in the sand’ technique and ignored it for years, but I guess it cathches up with us all in the end. I reckon that I am about half way there at present. For me, it has meant a complete change in lifestyle and the breaking of many bad habits! I still have a way to go but am determined to see this one through.
