Succumbed to chocolate

Alas, I have fallen off the bandwagon and have been eating some chocolate for the last few days.

The chocolate is now nearly finished so I’m going to try and hold off buying any more.

Had to have some chocolate

Well after a week going without, I caved in and had some chocolate. It was part of a Lindt bar, 85% cocoa, very dark, good quality chocolate, so I don’t feel too guilty and bad. Admittedly right after I had it I felt rather full.

I’m not planning to have this every day, just when the urge hits. Hopefully I won’t be falling back into my daily chocolate habit again.

Similar to paleo

I’ve been reading about the popular paleo diet over the last couple of days. It sounds good in theory but I’m not sure if I can afford it and what it actually is. Seems to be some confusion on the issue, some devotees seem to think it means eating loads of protein and fat with no regards to vegetables, etc. I would think it is really a low carb eating plan which would suit me. I’ve always been overweight, have had borderline blood sugar issues and I think I’m carb sensitive.

I’ve noticed in the last week that I don’t react well to oats, so I’m going to ditch them, sadly. Have to find new foods to eat. I also don’t handle wheat well. For the most part I don’t eat it anymore. I thought a little bit here and there would be fine but we had dinner out at a restaurant yesterday and I had a very small piece of garlic bread. Several hours later (at home fortunately) I was in pain with cramps in my gut. I’ve learned my lesson. NO MORE WHEAT!

So rather than aspiring to go paleo, I will be trying to come up with some appropriate protein rich menus for myself and avoid grains for the most part with the exception of rice. The other reference I will be trying to follow is the blood type diet. Although it doesn’t have any science to back it up, some of the advice in there is extremely accurate re myself, and has helped me tremendously. For example, it says to avoid wheat, and also oats and corn, but not rye, which is to be eaten in moderation. So far I’ve noticed I can tolerate rye but not wheat or oats, despite the fact that they all have gluten. Also I noticed some of the vegetables on the avoid list for my group are things I’ve always hated to eat eg cabbage, avocado. My blood type is O, which is the hunter-gatherer type, similar to paleo.

So I’ve decided to follow my own version of a low carb eating plan with these two sources (paleo and Blood type diet) in mind. I really think this makes a lot of sense for me. Can’t believe I didn’t do this before. I will have to avoid wheat, oats, corn, processed food, sugary foods, and will also have to learn more creative ways with vegetables. On the plus side, I have not had any chocolate for almost a week, it used to be a daily habit but I noticed it was having negative effects on my body. I’m wondering how long I can keep this up, me, the chocolate addict.

I think this will be difficult, but since I’m becoming more sensitive, my diet has to change.
