Starting From scratch  — 1 year ago

This past winter there was a water main break and my little 10 by 20 ft urban oasis was under water. Months later, I’m greeting Spring with a dead lawn. I probably should reseed the lawn but I can’t seem to find the time.

I started late in the season and left my tomatoes on the vine as long as I dared. When the temps dropped to 35 several nights in a row, off they came. This is one of the better ones after several weeks of ripening.

Upside down tomatoes  — 1 year ago

In June, I planted my tomatoes using an upside down tomato planter. It grew fairly well – it’s nearly 6 feet tall- without staking or supporting or bugs. Unfortunately itneeds to be watered everyday or the leaves start to dry out. It’s September and I haven’t seen any tomatoes yet but I’m realy proud it grew as big as it has.

When I moved into my apartment, the back yard was over grown with weeds. I convinced the owner to let me experiment with it. My Dad has a green thumb; He can grow anything. Our pear tree grew three types of pears after he grafted on two branches. I didn’t get any advice when I had the chance and looked forward to this experiment. Three years later, the weeds are gone and the lawn looks lush despite a few bare spots. This year I’m tackling tomatoes (grown upside down). Depending on my success with that, my next project is an herb garden.
