find a job that makes me happy

Well I’ve been with the company over a year now and it’s all starting to go a bit pear-shaped. I’m co-manager of a team of 7 (it was eight) who work in our India office, and i was lucky enough to spend a week over there in the summer, which was fantastic, both personally and professionally. However, I’ve had various issues at home which have ultimately caused friction at work and I’m currently feeling really demotivated and fed up. I’m going to hang on here till the end of my contract next May, but am already starting to think about where I go from here.

Four months in and it’s still going well, though my job has changed quite a lot. I’m now managing remotely a team of five (they’re in the India office) and getting more involved in training as well. Looks like my contract will be extended and I’ll get a pay rise in March, and I’m still loving the job (most days) so it’s looking good!

Two weeks in and the job is going really well and I’m enjoying it. I don’t think I’d want to do this forever as it would probably get a bit repetitive after a while, but the company are great and so far I’m really enjoying working!

I had three interviews – two were for failry standard admin jobs, and I was offered one of those, but turned it down – because the third interview was with a company called Alamy, for a position as Picture editor. Before the interview I had to complete some tests where I was given a brief and had to find relevant images to fill the requirements of the brief; I really enjoyed going it and then the interview went well and i got the job!!! I don’t know if this is going to be what I want to do forever but the contract is only for an initial six months, but I am really looking forward to getting stuck in to it.

This is a top priority now as I have moved in with my fiancé and he is having to support me and my kids financially – I really don’t like being a kept woman! I’ve applied for about a dozen jobs so far and there are a couple I would really really like so fingers crossed!

I’m 34 and still don’t know what I want to do when I grow up!!! About to graduate with a decent degree in Media technology and I’d love to go on to be a radio producer on Radio 4, but I know the chances of that happening are very small – I’m not that good at it, I haven’t got much practical experience, I’ve got two kids tagging along and I’m in a market with a million bright-eyed bushy-tailed twentysomthing graduates.

I’m not particulary ambitious, I’m not very materialistic, I’d far rather be earning 15 grand doing something I love than 30 grand in a job I hate. I just don’t know what it is that’s going to be my dream job!
