Well, it wasn’t exactly what I had planned. While apartment hunting in the city, we actually ended up making a career change and have now found a new place to live and new jobs a little farther north. In just a few weeks, we’ll be in a new place with lots of room for us and no leaky ceilings or broken buzzers! Huzzahs!

We had all of the money saved for the first month + security deposit + fees on our new apartment (which we hadn’t found). Unfortunately, I had to dip into the savings to fly back home suddenly for my little sister’s funeral 2 weeks ago, so I’m not sure where this leaves us apartment-wise. I guess we’ll see.
I found an apartment that I’m completely in love with. E and I are going to look at it tomorrow and if he likes it and everything checks out paperwork-wise, we may have a new place by the first of the month!
We found out that someone who works with my husband has apartments in the area we’re looking at and he’s bringing him a list this afternoon, so hopefully by tonight we’ll have some better ideas.
So I’m getting close to the wire and I’m behind on my rent in the apartment we currently live in, so things are getting stressful around here. Soon… hopefullly very soon…
and the deadline looms. Well, not really. Our lease is up at the end of August, but our landlord is a good guy and would let us stay until we found a place, or sign us a shortened lease if we wanted. We really need to move, though, because of my husband’s commute. It’s becoming unbearable for him and it’s making him snappy. He’s adding 6 hours to his day at work, so it’s completely understandable.
to get in contact with a realtor who’s handling a little two bedroom home in upstate NY with a yard, attic den area and basement. I need to find out how livable it will be for us and how far it is from my husband’s work, since there wasn’t an address in the listing. It’s cute and the price is right, we’ll see if that’s still the case after broker’s fees and the rest. It does say that the last month of each year’s worth of lease is free, so that’s a bonus!
I’m going to call tomorrow to check on one… it’s a little farther north than I had hoped and I need to make sure the area it’s in will be easy enough for us to get around without a car in… but it’s large enough and in our price range…crossing fingers
Today, I found a list of stops on the line we’ll have to use to commute back and forth from the city. We don’t have any interest in buying a car, so wherever we choose to move has to have groceries, laundry and public transportation that’s easily accessible.
We’ve also got a budjet and some of the apartments I’m finding upstate are just as expensive as living in Manhatten. Tomorrow, I’ll go through the list of cities and narrow it down to the ones we’ll be able to get around in… then I’ll start looking into safety and price… ugh, this is irritating!
I found one that looked okay, pretty small, though. I’ll maybe make a phone call to go look at it this weekend if nothing else becomes available.
