Change of Plans 5 months ago

I ended up not reading Macbeth, but I plan on doing so pretty soon. However, I have completed reading King Lear and I am currently 1/4 of my way into Twelfth Night, or What You Will, and I’ve only started today.

I’m hoping to complete most of Shakespeare’s plays by the beginning of September during my summer vacation.

Tempest Essay 9 months ago

I just checked the grades and apparently I got an A+ on my Tempest essay. I’m really pleased, but I don’t think it was very deserving of such a high grade.

I think it’s very likely that because we were only required to Brave New World and I read The Tempest alone, she gave me an extra boost in my grade for the essay.

I haven’t actually started Macbeth yet but I did read The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde yesterday, which I found to be absolutely charming. It has to be one of more favorite plays and I think I would really enjoy seeing it performed.

I’m not sure when I’ll be getting to Macbeth though. I’m still in the midst of Moby Dick, The Last of the Mohicans and Something Wicked This Way Comes, not to mention The Picture of Dorian Gray and a couple of Poe’s works. I’m sure I’ll get to it soon though. I’m looking forward to it!

More on The Tempest 9 months ago

My English teacher approved my essay topic and I’m currently working on the said essay which is due on Friday. It’s going pretty well and I think it’s going to turn out okay, if not better than okay.

Additionally, I’ve decided to read Macbeth next due to the fact that I’m familiar with the plot line having read a Wicked-style book featuring characters from Macbeth and I got a recommendation on it.

I’m really glad since I already have the play as it’s part of the book that had The Tempest and I look forward to starting it soon.

Finished The Tempest 9 months ago

I finished The Tempest and I can now cross it off my list! I’m really glad about that and I have already emailed my synopsis of it off to my English teacher for her to judge if it’s good enough to write my compare and contrast essay on.

I hope it is, but if it isn’t at least I enjoyed reading the play and I’m glad that I can cross another one off of my list.

The Tempest 9 months ago

I realized today that I told my English teacher that I would like to complete my essay on The Tempest comparing and contrasting that play between the novel Brave New World. I also realized that I still have not read The Tempest which is quite problematic because we’re supposed to be bringing in a first draft next week and as I’d like to become a novelist, I would like all of my writing to reflect the quality of work I’m capable of.

Therefore, I looked in our dusty old bookshelf and I found a book that contains a couple of different Shakespeare plays and something by Marlowe. Among the Shakespeare plays, there it was! The jackpot! The Tempest.

I started to read The Tempest and I have to say it is easier than I expected. I’m getting along quite nicely and I hope by tomorrow I’ll be able to start formulating ideas about how to write my essay, if not start writing.

Romeo and Juliet 10 months ago

I recently completed reading Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare and I can see how it has influenced many other writers, publications and cinema. As I would like to be a novelist I realize that I too can gain inspiration from reading Shakespeare. Thus, I have made it my goal to read all of Shakespeare’s plays. I hope to gain inspiration and to improve both my reading and writing skills.

If anyone has any recommendations as to what to read first, that is to say, second after Romeo and Juliet, I would much appreciate it.
