The last time I went to a drive-in theater was 1989 2 years ago

This was to the Star-Lite Drive-In in scenic Seymour, Indiana. There were three films playing that night, but I was only interested in the last one: No Holds Barred, starring Hulk Hogan. My parents took me and Cliff Ault (one of my best friends in elementary/middle school, and the son of one of dad’s co-workers). The first two films were a Jerry Lee Lewis biopic (Great Balls of Fire) and an abysmal comedy called Big Business starring Bette Midler and Lily Tomlin (each playing dual roles!). Cliff ate so much popcorn that he threw up, and he ended up falling asleep during the Hulk Hogan movie.

Interesting side note—the actor who played Zeus in No Holds Barred is Tiny Lister, whom you know better as Deebo from the Friday series. Since Hulk Hogan and WWE owner Vince McMahon produced this film, they actually brought Lister into the organization to wrestle for awhile. So I distinctly remember his brief and terrible stint in the then-named WWF.

We can joke all we want about how hokey and stupid wrestling was in the ‘80s and ‘90s. This is where most people would link to the Gobbledygooker, but I’m going to link instead to this footage of “The Shockmaster”.

None of this is a good explanation for why I want to go to a drive-in theater now. I think the best rationale is that if the movie sucks, I can still make out with somebody.
