Since I have been teaching myself from various sites online, it was a challenge to let down my guard and make some noise in front of someone. We’re going to focus on the Iz version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow and strumming.

I was right! The Austin Guitar School has an instructor willing to take on a ukulele student. I signed up for four lessons beginning April 23.

Finding a teacher 20 months ago

The uke really hasn’t caught on here in Austin…yet. I’m going to see if I can find a guitar teacher who can help me out. There’s only so much I can learn on my own—besides I’d like to have more musicians in my life.

Choosing an instrument 20 months ago

After researching online, I bought a flea uke at a local guitar store. It’s good looking, reasonably priced, and sounds wonderful. Beware of toys masquerading as musical instruments!
