Make new friends

We are all so busy. Sometimes you just have to make time for friendship. Whatever it is that you think you have to do, it isn’t nearly as important as nurturing relationships with other people.

The path to new friends…go to bookstore, browse magazines, and pick up Shambhala Sun, then go to buddhist section and discover several exciting new young American buddhist writers, including Noah Levine who wrote Dharma Punx…look for more info online and discover that your hometown as a Dharma Punx group…attend a meeting and find several intelligent like-minded people…meditate…and destroy the illusion that you are separate and all alone in the world.

I went to the Documentary Film Lovers meetup. We saw “Handmade Nation” and crafts fair at the Alamo-South. So inspiring! I overspent, but I had to have Jenny Hart’s new book “Embroidery Effects”, the “Harold and Maude” paper dolls, and a baby bib with a Bambi applique (cut out from a vintage fabric). Support your local craftspeople.

It’s been awhile since I’ve had time to go to meetups, but now I do and want to get myself “out there”. The number of meetups in Austin has grown to 890, so there were several new ones that appealed to me. From Backyard Poultry to Indie Film to Hula Hoopers…but still no ukulele ;o(

I went to the hula hoopers meetup last night, a Hoopnotics class, and signed up for the series and bought a hoop. I think it may be a great skill to take to Burning Man. Check out the hoopnotics videos on youtube.com
