Oddly enough, even though I rarely go out at night anymore, I seem to have been keeping in better contact with people. Perhaps it’s because I’ve discovered that “being friends” or “being in touch” doesn’t necessarily entail hanging out on Friday nights. I’ve begun to have lunches with one friend on a semi-regular basis (we are trying to make it more regular, when her work allows). I am developing another “lunch friend” as well. I just moved into the same building as a woman I met overseas, and that’s done wonders for our relationship. Others are people I communicate with on the internet, and I’ve been keeping in phone touch with my peeps back in MI. Many acquaintances have, alas, fallen by the wayside, but my life is too scattered with too many superficial friends anyhow. I’ll stick to the solid few.

...I write as I simultaneously message an old friend. If it weren’t for the internet I’d be a lonely young woman. I could be much better at keeping up, though. Only my wired friends get through, except for a few close ones.
