Notes on dealing with illness from "A Different Kind of Health"  — 1 year ago

Somethings for me to remember about being healthy. And things to remember about being sick.

When sick remember:
There are benefits from painful experiences. Pain and Joy can be experienced side by side.

There is not a single way to make life whole and full. Health is as much inner, as outer, and order,and satisfation, can be experienced inside in the midst of chaos and disorder. Wow!

Wholeness and satisfaction start with a sense of order in our consciousness.

Stay on Healthy terms with life and find good in it.

Health has a lot to do with how we adapt and respond to what life presents us.

Health is best demonstrated when the going gets tough. How we respond affects our health.

There are other parts to you other than body:
interpersonal (relationships)
transpersonal (spiritual)
intrapersonal (inner man unconscious)

You have your will to live. Fight harder don’t give up.

Whenever we lose orselves in someting larger we are on the path for reclaiming our inner health. You can become a better person as a result of your illness.

Look for the positive contribtions that you illness brings. Has your awareness of people deepened? Disease can lead to an increase in wisdom and understanding. Try to see the value… see the benefits. Don’t dwell on deficiences. If you stare into death it can make you a believer in life. Disease presents you with an opportunity for growth and transformation. Can this teach you how to keep things in perspective, to realize what is important. Look for more patience, understanding and empathy. It can also prepare you for your own dying.

Do you believe you can experience life as good even though there is trauma and crisis. Focus on the positives. We need to find love, meaning, mystery, mastery in whatever condition life presents to us. We need to feel connection and meaing.

To feel well inside ourselves we must overcome not only isolation but fear. In illness we are called to confront fear head on….this makes us stronger

You can be well in your being while impaired physically. Health is a joyful attitude towards life and a cheerful acceptance of the responsibilities that life puts on an individual. Victor Frankl survived Auschuwitz because of his attitude. I am responsible for making use of the slightest chance for survival.

I have been really sick at different times in my life and it has taught me that health is something to fight for. I have to keep my mind healthy, stay balanced, have fun, watch how I nourish myself and really learn to love myself. It takes everyday effort, sincere effort. So I must remind myself to check in daily…how am I doing? Am I treating myself like the treasure I am.
