i realized in my therapy that i’ve been trying to figure it all out ahead of time again, a futile exercize often that leaves me older than my age, too serious, and missing out on the adventure of exploring, not knowing, and not worrying about the what ifs of life you can’t control. it’s like the alchohol anonymous creed, the wisdome to know the difference. People make plans, i was reminded, and god laughs.

Great book on stopping worry. I want to review it more often, i think it has many truths to it and is a classic. the big premis is: live each day in daytight compartments.
in my own words: the way to prepare for tomorrow and heal the past is simply to do today really really well :)
here are some quotes from the book i like, hopefully they can help some of you too
shut off the past! Let the dead past bury its dead...shut out the yesterdays which have lighted fools the way to dusty death...the load of tomorrow, added to that of yesterday, carried today, makes the strongest falter. Shut off the future as tightly as the past..the future is today...there is no tomorrow. the day of man's salvation is now. wast e of energy, mental distress, nervouse worries dog the steps of a man who is anxious about the future...shut close, then, the great fore and aft blukheads, and prepare to cultivate the habit of a life of "day-tight" compartments.(the way to prepare for tomorrow and heal the past is simply to do today really really well :)

lately i’ve been researching positive psychology…it’s encouraging to see how controlling your outlook on life and taking responsibility help reduce anxiety by giving you perspective.

The research put me right there with everyone under 35 as the “me” generation and faults an excessive focus on self esteem and the self as creating self-centered/narrsisistic youth. this excessive self-centeredness leads us to blame others for our problems and therby lose a sense of control. On one hand I always thought I had somewhat low self esteem and ability to believe in myself, but now I think perhaps I am just looking at it in the wrong light. It is healthy to feel responsiblity for relatioships, community etc.
