At least read a book every month.
I just finished an old book about bicycle and the love of the bicycles. It’s an old book published during the 70’s. What I found out was that all the problems the author mentioned is the same as today, even worse because of the amount of cars on the road. His hopes were the same hopes people have today. Anyway, it was a wonderful book.
then… I started another one yesterday morning. The ritual of reading after waking up is an excellent habit I am forming. Even better with the morning coffee.
Good Reading!

This is really hard to do… but I’m not giving up. It’s all connected to the other goals I have like, consume less and live simply. But I can not bring myself to stop when I go in a bookstore. I’m just glad I don’t go to big-chain bookstores.
My spending is always justified, at least to myself, that I am supporting a local or a small neighborhood bookstore. I am so happy to visit one, always. To spend for one book makes me even feel better that I’m putting my money where my mouth is. Either way, control in buying is my issue here.

That is NOT helping me at all. What can I do? I love books. Well, those that are truly relevant to me anyway. I finished Omnivore’s Dilema a week ago, two days after that I bought 3 others that were in connection to that reading. Now I’m introduced to such great authors/farmers like Aldo Leopold, Wendell Berry and Wes Jackson. I even have an old compilation of “The Land” magazine in book form with all the wonderful articles.
I think the upside here are the things we learn from these books. Then buy 3 – read 1 may not be bad after all…

The only way this can work for me is not to go to a bookstore. ARRRGGGG!!! Why not?! I love books! The thing is, I started reading all that I have right now. My interest jumps from one book to the other. It’s quite refreshing to go back to another I was reading and continue on.
Finished one last week. But I bought on sale a book on creativity at Green Apple Bookstore in Clement St. I can just spend the whole day in that store alone. But to step out without a purchase, that another thing.
Don’t worry I’ll succeed on this one… soon!

Oh yeah! I keep on buying books I wanted to read. I’m reading 3 of them. I wonder when I will finish. Recently, I bought “The Naming of Names” and the reason why I did is because of the old illustrations of plants and this will help me with my graphics. Plus, I love reading about natural history.
