Part One

1. Who are you? – Josh… that’s all I can and ever will be.

2. What are the 3 most important things everyone should know about you? – I’m loyal, I don’t care what is “normal”, and money means almost nothing to me.

4. List your classes in school from the ones you like the most to the ones you like the least (or if you are out of school, think of the classes you did like and didn’t like at the time). – I actually enjoyed most of my classes in high school and in college. I got good grades in everything and didn’t really find that I needed to work harder in any certain subjects than others. In high school I loved chemistry and physics because I enjoyed learning about how the world works. In college I loved geology, philosophy, and literature the most when I was a geology major. When I transferred to culinary school, I loved the culinary and baking/pastry classes but I felt that the general education classes there were a joke.

5. What is your biggest goal for this year? – The hardest goal that I hope to accomplish this year is walking the Camino de Santiago.

A lot of things most “grown ups” take seriously I don’t, though. I tend to not be very cynical and pessimistic, also. Perhaps there are things I should take more seriously, but I don’t really have any intentions of “growing up”.

Will you miss them when they are gone? – Very much.

17. Do you tend to be aware of what is going on around you? – Painfully so… even if I don’t let on that I do. Awareness is a big part of the martial arts training that I’ve had.

18. What is the truest thing that you know? – Life rolls on like a river.

19. What did you want to be when you grew up? – An explorer.

20. Have you ever been given a second chance? – Yes. :) It’s kind of what I am doing… just not for the world but for myself.

21. Are you more of a giver or a taker? – A giver… but I’m trying to work towards balancing that. Sometimes I have felt drained because I’ve given too much and other times I’ve realized I’ve kept others from having the blessing of being a giver because I I either wouldn’t take or had given in a way that resulted in them not being able to give.

22. Do you make your decisions with an open heart/mind? – I would like to think so. I’m sure, though, that at times I my own selfishness, agenda, and expectations get the way.

Within a week of having him, he got really sick and I took him back to the shelter because part of the adoption fees included six month’s worth of vet services. Turns out he was terminally ill and needed to be euthanized. He had spent the last three years in the shelter (it was a no kill shelter and I purposely asked for a cat that was less likely to be adopted) and I had only had him for a week. Maybe I’m humanizing the event, but I felt like Max, the cat, had had a lonely life. I didn’t want him to die alone despite the fact that I had only had him a week. I asked and was granted the right to be with him when he was euthanized. I held him and petted him because I wanted him to feel loved when he died.

What this means is they stand in a little tube and their molecules are deconstructed and sent to another tube somewhere else where they are reassembled.
