Pandemic – which I had thought would always be used when describing a desease but doesn’t have to be.

It can be used to descibe something which occurs over a wide area and affects a lot of people.

Exacerbate.

Hmmmmmmm. I like this word. It rolls nicely off the tongue and can be very useful if you have children.

‘Thomas! Do not exacerbate the situation!’

Basically it means make things worse.
