A Fun Day at Warren Street 4 years ago

I’ve spent a fun day near Warren Street…

I work five minutes from Warren Street station and
today had lunch with two friends in a pub just past
the station. We were discussing the current tube
sutuation – having to walk from Liverpool St to
Moorgate, the massive police presence at stations now
etc – when I said, ‘It’s probably pretty safe at the
moment as everyone is so alert.’ DUH!

The next minute we heard masses of sirens. Glyn looked
out of the window and comments that the traffic
appears to have been diverted along the side road.
Then a guy came into the pub who had been on the tube
at Warren Street. He said they’d smelt smoke then the
doors inbetween the carriages had opened and people
had just pushed their way through and along in a blind
panic.

We decided it had probably been panic more than smoke
and calmly finished our meal. On leaving the pub
however there were lots of police about busy cordoning
off the road and turning traffic back. Then we heard
rumours of an explosion on the tube and my stomach
flipped. We couldn’t get back to work the way we’d
come so had to walk all the way to Great Portland
Street Station and cut around the back. Back in work -
it’s a big glass building practically overlooking
Warren Street – we all googled for Sky News and
watched the police pushing the cordon further and
further back until our building was actually inside
it. Someone – bless their hearts – thought that maybe
it was a chemical bomb and that was why the police
were clearing such a large area. Someone else said
that we’d know for sure if we all collapsed after a
few minutes of leaving the building har har. Not much
work was done – though I did manage to complete my
little incident report for one of our little
applications.

Eventually the police moved the cordon forward so we
decided that maybe the breathing equipment wouldn’t be
required on leaving the building.

We were evacuated at 15:30. Not sure why as by this
time it was evident that things weren’t getting worse.
I walked to Euston Sation. I asked a policeman whether
any tubes or buses were running and he was pretty
negative. Whoopee, thought I, I’ve always fancied
walking all the way to Highams Park from Euston
Square. But when I got to Euston I was told that there
were buses and also the mainline stations were
working. Yippee.

The problem here is that it is all getting MUCH too
close to home. I use Warren Street all the time. I use
the buses all the time. I use London all the damn
time. If people don’t want to be part of London they
should *$£@ off. If people over here express delight
when we are killed they should blasted be kicked out
of the country.

I will resume the drudge into work tomorrow
along with the rest of Blair’s cannon fodder. We may
not be afraid but the least he could do is climb out
of his armoured vehicle and walk alongside us.

Kings X 4 years ago

I walked past today to catch a bus. There were so many people walking as there was a broken down train at Kings X. Mounds of flowers there and people laying them down as I watched. I’m sure I wasn’t alone in checking that the luggage rack was empty as I got on my tube in the morning.

As it happens.. 4 years ago

I didn’t actually have to work on Thursday. My son is starting Year 7 in September and his new school held an induction day so I’d booked it off. I wouldn’t actually have been on any of the tubes affected but I work damn near (Euston Square) and get the tube from Liverpool Street every morning. My line goes through Kings Cross but it was a different line that the bomb was on. It certainly does make you think that we should live life to the full as we never know what tomorrow may bring. If they’d decided on a slightly different time and a different route then it could have been me….or you.

I was told not to go in on Friday as I am non essential – what a cheek! So will I be in work on Monday? You bet! And I’ll be taking the tube. The people who did this do not deserve to coexist with the rest of us. Maybe we’ll get better border control now. My thoughts for most of the day have been with those people who were just on their way to work….
