well, I finally re-wrote my damn resume, and showed it to a family friend who used to be a corporate HR guy. He had all kinds of suggestions, and has promised to pass it on to some bank folks he knows.
sent a copy to my old boss, who had all different kinds of suggestions, and said that he would not hire someone with my resume to do the job I want to do, and I should get my butt into some volunteer work. (He was nicer than that, of course) sigh. I wish I didn’t think so, but I bet he’s right.
so I cleaned up resume number one to be sent up to bank folks, cleaned up resume number two to send to the local hospital to see if I can’t get in there as a volunteer. now I just need to get DH to agree that I need to go work for free, and to take care of the kids while I’m gone. Probably should have that talk before I go phoning the volunteer’s office.

she’s a sales chic for Documentum, which I didn’t even know uses an Oracle back end. She’s combing through her rolodex for me, says I should go to the users group meeting in NYC next month with her.
the problem, for both of us, is that there are more Documentum users in NY/NJ than there are in CT and neither of us wants to leave or commute.
still, it’s good for our relationship for little sis to feel important and helpful, and for me to be gracious and appreciative. even better when she actually IS being helpful and I don’t need to fake the appreciation.

has promised some super help. He can’t place me, of course, because who wants to pay a finder’s fee for an inexperienced dba? But he said he’d look over my resume and help me with the technical skills section, and keep an ear to the ground for entry level openings. he also says he comes across entry level openings all the time online. so that’s all very comforting.

put my resume up and I’ve been getting nibbles. they’ve been a tiny bit off-base, but they’ve helped me tweak my resume to avoid misunderstandings. so that’s valuable feedback.
