Challenge met

I consider my personal challenge met. I’ve got a regular schedule for exercise that I’ve met for two weeks, even when traveling. More importantly, I’ve really got the mindset now that it MUST happen. I’m no longer skipping exercise when things get busy—I’m skipping other things instead.

Missed Sat., but tried something new Sun.

Saturday was just too darned busy, and Sunday almost was, but I decided to try out my wife’s exercise ball and do the demo total body workout on the DVD that came with it. It didn’t seem to bad at the time, though I did break a sweat. I’m a bit sore this morning, so I guess that qualifies as a workout.

I’m considering getting a ball sized to me and doing the 15 minute daily stretch routine every morning.

Getting on track -- what will I count for my personal challenge

Finally got back to Zumba last night. Had a blast but it wiped me out.

So what does it take for me to consider I’ve passed my “personal challenge”, especially since I’ll be traveling from 9/21 – 9/28, so I won’t be able to do my normal “routine” that I’m building.

I’ll consider my challenge satisfied if I stick with my target routine from now until I leave (meaning a Sat. workout, a Monday or Tuesday class, and next Thursday Zumba), then work out at least three times while I’m traveling.

Routine smashed by vacation and illness

I had just started things up, then missed a bit because I went on vacation. Then while on vacation some mold triggered allergies, leading to a sinus infection, so here I am not having worked out since August 28th.

At this point, though, I have at least worked out a regular schedule I intend to follow:

Tuesday (alt. Monday on Tuesday nights when I have a Rails meetup): do the Body Sculpt class and cardio workout on treadmill or whatever.

Thursday: Zumba class

Saturday: combo fat burning/cardio on treadmill, or do a nice long bike ride

So now I finally have a plan. Scheduling in September will keep me from ever doing a complete week as planned, but I’ll consider this task done if I make every session I’m physically capable of doing.

Took a Zumba class and loved it!

I just got back from trying the Zumba class at the gym. I loved it! It’s definitely going to be part of my regular exercise program. Unfortunately, I’m going to miss next week because I’ll be on vacation.

So, if a figure a goal of at least three regular, scheduled exercise sessions a week to count as meeting this goal, I’ve figured out one of them. I think the Tuesday night Body sculpt class might be #2. I’ll still have to figure out when to work in #3 before Sept. 30, or I miss my personal challenge.

training session

So this gym I just joined included an initial session with a personal trainer to show some exercises, demo equipment, and such. I got through that last night, and didn’t feel too bad at the time, but I am BEAT now. Tired, and a little sore. I don’t think I overdid it, and I’ve got no gripes with the trainer. I’m just too darn out of shape!

So now I need to put some kind of regular program together.

Getting started

My wife and I joined a gym last week. I’m scheduled to have a training session on Thursday night. Then the trick is work everything into a schedule that is already packed. I’m going to shoot for making a sked for exercise and working the rest of the stuff around exercise, rather than the reverse.

So, I’m leaving August for starting up with a goal of being in a routine by September.
