Read at least one book a month

This is the second time I’ve read The Great Gatsby. The first time, I hated it, but this time I completely fell in love with Fitzgerald’s imagery. I fell in love with Jay Gatsby, too. I didn’t want the book to end—I’ll probably read it again soon.

I finished reading The Jane Austen Book Club by Karen Joy Fowler last night and I loved it. The last book I remember reading before college sucked out my soul was Diary by Chuck Palahniuk so I wanted something that was a bit lighter to start off the new year. I saw the movie last fall and thought it was very good, and my mom got me the novel for my birthday. There were some major differences between film and novel, but what else is new? (says the Harry Potter/ Lord of the Rings fan)...

I like the novel much better than the movie—Prudie, who I rather liked when viewing the film, despite her almost-liasons with one of her high school students, was a much more likeable character in the book. I really loved how each character was a reflection of their favorite Jane Austen Character.

Because of this book, I’ll be starting a Jane Austen book club at work, involving the community. Community service hours+great reading=a fabulos plan.
