this one in a while.
I’ve been walking, but very sporadically. Certainly not up to my goal of 5 days per week. Sometimes the problem is pain – from plantar fasciitis or my knees. Mostly the problem is making myself do it. Making it a habit.
I have been tracking this the last few weeks and have been averaging about 3 times a week. Until last week when I did less and then injured myself. Fortunately that was a quick healing injury so I’m ready to go again.
Next Monday Walter and I are heading for Hawaii where I expect to be walking more than usual. In the meantime I’m still working on that 5 days per week.

time off from walking while I was sick. I’ve been feeling somewhat better the last few days though and so far I’ve managed to walk 3 days in a row. They are slow and short walks, but they count.
My illness has given me additional motivation to get the walking done. It occurs to me that not only will this ultimately be good for my heart and mind but it can also help me develop improved lung capacity. As is my usual pattern when I get “the crud” what always remains at the end is a bunch of coughing and wheezing and need for inhalers (I have asthma) for an extended period of time (sometimes months). I’m hoping the walking will help speed up the lung recovery.

I’ve managed to walk 4 days a week. That’s a lot better than I have done for a while, but it’s still not my goal of 5 days. I’m going for 5+ days this coming week. I really need to reestablish this habit. These walks are not very long but they are definitely harder than they need to be.

Working on it
I am working on getting my consistency up again on the walking. Week before last I only did 2 days. Not good. Last week I did 4 days – better, but not good enough. I’m aiming for at least 5 days a week. I’m going to do it this week.

I did so well earlier this year with walking at least 5 days a week. I fell off the wagon when my plantar fasciitis flared up. But now it’s time to get going again. A couple weeks ago I started walking again with the goal of walking at least 5 days a week. The first week I managed only 4 days, but this week I did 5 days – yay!
The weather has been crummy here with lots of ice and snow outside. We don’t have a treadmill (I wish we did) but we are fortunate to live in a large apartment complex with 3-1/2 floors of nice long hallways. We have been using the hallways as our walking track and the stairs between floors for a little extra workout. It’s working well for now although Walter and I will both be glad when the sidewalks are clear enough we can get outside to walk.

I was doing so well with the walking until my plantar fasciitis combined with my problem leaving work on time, and it all sort of blew up. I’m looking to get back on track.

I added stretching to my walking a couple weeks ago. I thought about marking this goal “done” because I’m walking regularly now but I’m leaving it here on the active list until I get to 90 days on the walking habit. I want to feel like it’s really an ingrained part of my life before I mark this one off.

I’ve had some success with my “walk 30 days in a row” goal. It has helped me to micro-focus on creating a habit that will last. I feel like I’m doing a little better in this category of exercise but still have a long ways to go.

My mother is having health problems including a fall on August 21. Since then life seems upside down and I’ve spent a lot more time driving up and down the freeway to the town where she lives and little time walking.
I’m restarting the walking today though and will do what I can to fit it in as often as possible.
