5,007!
Well today I did it! I reached my goal of cycling 5,000 miles in 2008. It was not always easy to get on a bike but with a clear plan on how many miles I needed weekly, I would focus only at achieving or passing the miles needed that week.
Now that I have a solid fitness base, I’ll work at maintaining that while increasing my overall strength.
Thanks to everyone who supported me along the way and those who joined me on the attempt. You all kept me focused and motivated.
Not to bad for a 43 year old. Pedal On!
Not bad mileage (344) for the month considering it was November. I am hoping to finally reach the magic 5,000 in the next 2 weeks as I have only 138 miles left to go.
It is going to feel really good when I can mark this one complete!
YTD Miles: 4,862
Today I passed another milestone and cracked the 4,500 mile mark for the year. YTD miles are 4,508.
I’m glad the cycling gods smiling on me and I only have 492 miles left to cover during the next 2 months.
Today in order to celebrate my 43rd Birthday I did a 43 mile bike ride. (The irony of the 43 connection is pretty cool). In the process I broke the 4,000 mile mark for the year!
This was a private goal I set for myself when the summer started.
Now its time to slow down my riding some and add weight training to my workouts as I only need to average about 68 miles a week for rest of the year to reach the 5,000 mile mark.
YTD miles: 4,002
Back on the bike after fighting one nasty infection. Just managed to stay out of the hospital. Anyway…the way I figure it only need to average about 78 miles a week for rest of the year and I’ll make it. It shouldn’t be a problem (if I stay healthy) as I averaged 80 miles a week during the winter months. Only 1,312 left to go!
Well yesterday it happened. 1st crash of the year. I was cruising along minding my own business when out of nowhere I lost control on a patch of sand on the side of the road. Had no chance to unclip from the pedals and slid along the road on my right leg. I’m lucky that no damage to the bike and only damage to me are cuts on my leg and some stiffness. Didn’t stop me from finishing ride yesterday (only about 5 mile left) and riding today but the pain of pulling the hair out of my leg when I change bandages is a special thrill… where is my razor?!?
Aug miles: 229
YTD miles: 3,425
Not a bad month with 644 miles but June was better, must have been that summer cold I developed about a week and half ago. Anyway, still a fun month on the bike and getting closer to that 5,000 mile mark. Like July, I am going to shoot for 750 miles in August.
Pedal On!
YTD Miles: 3,195
Cracked the 3,000 mile mark. Less then 2,000 to go!
YTD miles:3,019
July miles: 467
All season I’ve been dodging suicide squirrels, crazy chipmunks, flocks of turkeys, renegade deer and not to mention idiot drivers and up until this morning I’ve been very lucky and have walked away unscathed. Well today, they finally got me. A Kamikaze bee came out of nowhere and flew right into my mouth, stinging me on my lower lip. After franticly spitting that thing out and waiting for my eyes to stop watering, I managed to continue and finish my ride. Now I have a fat lower lip and my left side of my face feels like it is full of Novocain. I’m going to the store to get some Mead so I can remind myself some of the wonderful things bees help up produce. :-)
July miles: 309.14
YTD miles: 2860
