Creative blocks are ass. — 2 years ago
(long-term)(personal)(writing)
Being a Creative Writing major (or prospective), the description of my final project seems easy enough; the one I’m aiming for is to turn in “a significant portion of a novel”. That works for me since I’ve been working on a number of novels since the mid-90s (when I was in elementary school). Just last November I started work on a semi-autobiographical novel that’s based on experiences I’ve had with various people, mostly women. It’s different because most of the other ideas I’ve had are science fiction; this one’s straight up fiction with a bit of a noir element.
Since last year I’ve written a couple of chapters and defined the story to a point where I’m happy with it from start to finish, and I’m all set to get to work on finishing everything up, though I’ve got a lot of writing (and rewriting) to do before I can call it complete. Still, I’m liking where it’s going at the moment. Plus, one of the chapters I finished was published in one of the literary magazines at my college, and it’s been generating a lot of positive feedback, which is always a boost to morale.
I’m still thinking about getting it to the publishers, but for now I’m not going to worry since it’s far from finished. Plus, I wouldn’t know where to start.
