volunteer more

I volunteered at the Urban Ecology Center today, which always makes me happy. I wish I had more time to spend there. I’m thinking I’ll get a membership once spring hits and I can actually enjoy the outdoor aspects.

Although I have moved out of Madison and away from the humane society I have still been able to help out by working on graphic design projects. My first project was a brochure for kids’ summer classes to work with animals and more recently I did a flyer for the pet loss support group. I’m glad to know I can still help out even so far away.

I’m officially a Feline Friend for the Dane County Humane Society, yay! I had my training last night so I’m free to come in and play with cats whenever I want from now on. I’m really excited but I think its also going to be really difficult for me. I was nearly in tears at training seeing all the cats in their cages. When we came into the room they all started crying because they wanted attention so badly. I only have to volunteer for a minimum of two hours each week but I think I will be going in much more than that.

ok, finished orientation for the humane society. next week I have training, boy are they thorough. I feel as though having cats in my house since I was born should be enough qualification to play with them for two hours a week, so I don’t plan on there being new information during training but I’ll do what it takes. Hopefully I can start volunteering immediately after training :)

I filled out an application to volunteer at my local animal shelter today, all I have to do is mail it in tomorrow and wait for them to call! It’s 2 hours/week for six months, I think I can handle that. I’m already feeling pretty good about this :)
