Failing miserably right now... 4 years ago

As I mentioned in one of my other recent entries, I’ve been spending a ton of time at home…and I don’t really have any of my stuff with me (like books and such, aside from my book on regrets and my book called “sex”...and I can only read so much of each of those at a time). my stuff is still in storage until I figure out where I will be resting my head in the upcoming year (more on that later…it will probably fit better into another goal’s post).

but anyway, ive been watching a lot of tv. or the tv has been on a lot anyway. its just on from when I wake up to when I go to sleep. Sometimes Im not even watching it…its just there. Im one of THOSE people now…so thats bad, and I’m sucking electricity in the midst of another summer of rolling blackouts here in southern california.

I did eat an apple yesterday though. Can’t remember the last time I did that (probably over a year). But in addition, i had a bag of chips and two peanut butter and honey sanwhiches….and a whole lotta Sunny Delight.

My consumption over the past 5 weeks or so has been a lot more mindful, mostly because of the surroundings Im in – we grow some of our vegetables or get them from the local CSA farm. We rarely eat meat or fish or chicken and when we do its the earth-friendly kinds. We recycle everything that can possibly be recycled. We learn about the environment and resources and all these things.

I haven’t watched ANY television since I got here. I’ve watched a couple of rented movies only. The only time I’m in a car is when our group takes trips in the van (Big Bertha). I walk and I take the train.

I bring this up not to say that Im not interested in these things, but I hardly think I’d have come this far this quickly had I still been at home in Los Angeles…so because this is kind of the default lifestyle, I just wonder if it’s mindful or its require-ful…
