What is Heaven? 1 month ago

A man and his dog were walking along a road.
The man was enjoying the scenery,
when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead.

He remembered dying, and that the dog walking beside him had been dead for years.
He wondered where the road was leading them.

After a while, they came to a high,
white stone wall along one side of the road.

It looked like fine marble..

At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight.

When he was standing before it, he saw a magnificent
gate in the arch that looked like mother-of-pearl,
and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold.

He and the dog walked toward the gate, and as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side.

When he was close enough, he called out, ‘Excuse me, where are we?’

‘This is Heaven, sir,’ the man answered.

‘Wow! Would you happen to have some water?’ the man asked.

‘Of course, sir. Come right in, and I’ll have some ice
water brought right up.’

The man gestured, and the gate began to open.
‘Can my friend,’ gesturing toward his dog, ‘come in, too?’ the traveller asked.

‘I’m sorry; sir, but we don’t accept pets.’

The man thought a moment and then turned back toward the road and continued the way he had been going with his dog.

After another long walk, and at the top of another long hill, he came to a dirt road leading through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed.

There was no fence.

As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside,
leaning against a tree and reading a book…..

‘Excuse me!’ he called to the man. ‘Do you have any water?’

‘Yeah, sure, there’s a pump over there, come on in.’

‘How about my friend here?’ the traveller gestured to the dog.

‘There should be a bowl by the pump,’ said the man.

They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old-fashioned hand pump with a bowl beside it.

The traveller filled the water bowl and took a long drink himself, then he gave some to the dog.

When they were full, he and the dog walked back
toward the man who was standing by the tree.

‘What do you call this place?’ the traveller asked.

‘This is Heaven,’ he answered.

‘Well, that’s confusing,’ the traveller said.

‘The man down the road said that was Heaven, too.’

‘Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates? Nope. That’s hell.’

‘Doesn’t it make you mad for them to use your name like that?’

‘No, we’re just happy that they screen out the folks who would leave their best friends behind.’

I haven't been online much lately 1 month ago

I just haven’t had the time and inclination. I realised I have been leaving a lot of things undone offline so I tried to stay away to work on things here. Although I got some things accomplished that I thought I wasn’t getting done, I now realise I’m just as good at procastinating away from 43T as I am on it. Ha, ha.

I'm Here 2 months ago

I’ve been away awhile. Partly because our computer was down, partly because everyone needs a break now and then. I know I need to do some catching up. Send a few postcards, post about what has been happening with my life and goals, send a few cheers out.

Taking A Break 4 months ago

I took a break from my pc for a week and I guess nothing much happened while I was away. I’ve been packing stuff from this house for moving, helping my daughter prepare her house for renting, and finishing up minor things at the house where we are moving. George has been checking into satelite and cable to see which one we should get service from. He also has to find out which internet service is best for us. And the list goes on and on.

Nothing to brag about 5 months ago

I haven’t had a regular pepsi in over a week.

I'm Thinking about starting a food journal 5 months ago

And making a list of the food I eat throughout the day. I’m not sure if I should make this a goal with daily entries or not. Right now, it is just a thought.

I consumed 2 things today that are undoubtedly on the no-no list of anyone thought to have diabetes. I had a doughnut this morning although I didn’t finish it and a grape Dr. Pepper from Sonic. Otherwise, I had a hard boiled egg and a banana berry fusion (yogurt drink) for breakfast and a turkey and cheese sandwich for lunch with a pepsi one.
We are planning to have spagetti with meat sause for dinner this evening.

Small Changes 5 months ago

I’m making some changes in my diet now. For the time being, I’m switching to diet soda, water, milk and/or crystal lite to drink with my meals. I bought some sugar free french vanilla creamer for my coffee although the non-dairy ingrediants are probably not good for me either. No more breakfast sandwiches from McDonald’s. I’m going to have to find something more healthy to start my day with. Probably just cereal and milk (measured serving) or an egg or fruit. No more nutty bars or snack cakes or cookies. I didn’t realise until now that just 2 doublestuff oreo cookies (considered a serving) is 150 calories. I’ve never stopped at only 2 cookies in my life. I won’t miss the potatoes or rice and most breads (especially white breads). I guess I’ll have to make certain concessions in other areas to eat my favorite bread and limit myself. Other changes will include substituting splenda for sugar when possible. I use to bake sugar free stuff for my dad years ago.

Changes I’m not making.

I’m going to continue eating fresh corn on the cob (at least while it is in season), cheese, milk, chocolate (dark is better). I am not giving up tomato and bacon sandwiches,_ tomatoes and cottage cheese, or any other way I can eat tomatoes from my garden. The key is to cut back and learn portion size.

Diabetes 5 months ago

Now that I know there is the possibility that I may have type 2 diabetes, I need to focus on my food intake. I drank one can of regular pepsi over the weekend. That pretty good for me and I really haven’t the urge to comsume more. I bought some diet pop (yuck) and guess I’ll drink that if I have to. I appreciate the fact I like water. Not only am I going to monitor my sweets intake but my overall carb and calorie intake as well. Carbs from all sources can be the enemy of a diabetic as well as just sugar.

I’m going to see how well I can do this. I know I need to talk to my physician soon and be tested for sure.

A Wake Up Call 5 months ago

I had a screening at work this week for diabetes. My blood sugar was elevated. It was 172 one hour after I had eaten. The nurse told me the healthy range is 120. I had it checked again a hour later and it was 129 which made me feel better but she said I could be borderline. I guess I need to cut out some of those starches and sugary snacks including soda. Poor Pepsi Co. Since I don’t drink diet soda, they may go belly up. I do need to lose some weight and get more exercise.

I couldn't think of where else to posrt this quote 5 months ago

“Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is NEVER puttingit in a fruit salad.”
