I’m keeping the kitten. :)

Well, we have been calling the kitten Sweetie. She is over her eye infection and has become so lively and playful. My daughter has realized the kitten doesn’t belong in their household for awhile with the baby so she’ll remain here for the time being, possibly, the next 2-3 months(years). Also, my daughter’s fiance is allergic to cats so that has presented a problem. He’ll tolerate the kitten but doesn’t want it around him and has been concerned about the baby being allegic as well. Izzy has been over here several times already and shows no signs, yet. I realize allegies do take time to develop. Of course, being new parents, they are scared about everything: smoking around the baby, the kitten or dog being around it, anyone with a cold. Hand sanitizer gets used by everyone who handles the baby.

Last Friday, my daughter found a kitten just outside her door and asked me to take care of it for her. I said I would do so for the next few weeks as she has just had her baby. My hubby thinks this is a ploy for me to get a new cat. It isn’t but if my daughter decides not to take the cat, I think we have a new cat. It is probably only 4 weeks old and too young to be away from its mother completely, but we got some formula for kittens and she is able to lap it up so she should be okay. She has any infection (matting) in her eyes and we took her to the vet Tuesday morning and got some antibiotics. She is doing better and is so loving and playful. I’m sure she was dumped as one of the clinicians commented that a kitten just like it had been found on the street my daughter lives and had been brought to the animal shelter in town just the day before. Our kitty is too young for shots and our vet wants her to be tested for feline leukemia in 2 weeks. I really hope this kitten comes up with a good bill of health.

My daughter finally took her cat to her new home back in December and we have been catless ever since. This last six weeks have been the longest period of time I’ve been without a cat for company since 1982.
