I downloaded a podcast called “Meditation for Beginners” and had the house to myself last night so I thought I’d give it a try. I was sitting there, trying to focus on the candle and “breathe in the golden light” etc, meanwhile my cat was parading around outside the door, demanding to know why it was closed. After five minutes of pawing at the door, I let her in and tried to continue my focus while she sniffed the candle, walked all over me, brushed up against me, rustled around in some plastic bags.
So yeah, first time, not so conducive to focus. Next time I need to wear headphones, I suppose.
I did get up this morning and do a few more minutes. I’m still not really able to forget the outside world, but I think maybe it will just take some practice. I never thought about meditation as something you needed to “get good at” but I suppose it is.
