tamanishiki

i just did this! on amazon i got the mikoshi trading brand nori, kokuho rose rice, and the kotobuki makisu bamboo sushi mat. following the directions at the online “sushi university,” it was surprisingly easy! i opted to make the rice in a pot, rather than a cooker, for better control, just as the site recommends. for vinegar i chose to spend a bit extra and get rice vinegar rather than normal vinegar. the result of all of it: pure heaven. this batch was eight veggie rolls to keep us going through the week. soon i’m going to try my hand with raw fish!

e-nori

after checking options at the local whole foods, i decided that amazon was actually the spot for nori and sushi rice. it’s coming in the mail (along with a sushi mat). so excited! my plan is for my girlfriend and i to have a sushi night one of these weekends where we start off by rolling about ten veggie rolls. then we put those in tupperwares in the fridge and take them for meals on the go (eat out less, and more delicious)! then we can roll another four or so with fresh sashimi-grade fish and eat that on the stop for a special dinner.

what kind of wine goes with sushi?

new year's rollolution

we did it! but i’m still not marking it done because i haven’t done it BY MYSELF.

so for new year’s i was kicking it at my friend’s place for a few days, and his girlfriend and i whipped up some vegan sushi for a small event we had. literally every major ingredient (nori, veggies, rice, tempeh) was vegetarian. the result was amazing, and a hit with the guests. now i’m waiting for my own mat in the mail from amazon!

local option, little excuse

a deli near my new place has sushi grade fish! i don’t have much excuse anymore.

desire, deficit, anticipation

in a few hours the sushi place will open and i’m gonna go chow. obsessive? yes. overpriced? surely. delicious and comestibly fulfilling? without a doubt. but maybe this will inspire future artistic creations. it’s just a small step from enjoying the savory fulfillment of raw fish to clasping small bamboo mats over tight rolls. right?

raw life

time to turn my obsession into an art. this is towards the end of my list because it realistically will not happen anytime soon. i love sushi for the raw fish, so it’s probably close to necessary to have a sushi freezer for me to complete this goal. someday.
