My mom and sister went to the permit course and they found out that in NYS in order to have a valid permit you have to buy a gun within 4-6 weeks of receiving your permit; or be registered on someone else’s.
I didn’t know that it had to be that soon and have no desire to buy a gun right now, so I’m putting this on the backburner.
I’d still like to take the course though. Ideally, once my sister gets hers (she needs the course and gun for her career) I’ll take the course at that time and be able to coregister on hers. That way, I can have a permit, have the safety course and go for training in using a gun before I decide whether or not to own one myself.

Z and I were supposed to go tonight but something came up at his job so we had to reschedule our course. Honestly, that worked out okay for me too. I was exhausted and I managed to get some homework and housework done.
Hopefully, we can reschedule soon.

I’m going to the course on Sept 14th! Once the course is completed, they help you fill out your permit paperwork and get all of the necessary ID stuff completed so that it just has to be submitted once I’m done taking the class.

This was one of my first goals when I joined 43things but I had to move it to my backburner due to cost. Now I can afford it, and my sister has to do this for her job so I’m going to try and get us both signed up for this in the fall.

I found out that in our community education, there is a pistol permit/licensing course. It’s about $75-100 per person, so I can’t afford to do it now, but hopefully in the spring. I don’t know if I’ll ever own a gun, but I would like to know how to operate one in case I ever would. I’m a very small woman and would like to make sure I feel safe if I ever moved out on my own.
