cycle 5000 miles in 2008

Just wanted to get my post in here and register my time and date. I needed 28.80 miles to hit the 5000 mile mark and I accomplished that at approx 13:25 Mountain Standard Time today. I was all prepared to do this on November 30th and get this done in 11 months. The weather did not allow me to do this that day and I had to leave the next morning on a trip for work the entire following week. So today was the next day to get r done! Will post a picture or two here in a while. Total miles today was 32.35 which brings my year total as of today to 5003.55
This was a very special goal for me! I thank each of you that participated and encouraged me along the way!

I went over 4000 today. I do not have the exact figure as I left my planner(where I keep track) at work. It should be roughly 4020 or so. Hurah! just 20% left!

Well this mornings ride was cut short, actually stopped all together. I was going down the bike path early as I do many mornings to commute to work and it is dark and no lights in some areas. It is open space and the path runs through it. Well I see a skunk. I should say I see him as I go past him and he runs off the path and into the woods. I think to myself wow I am glad he did not spray me. As I progress with my ride the smell is apparent that he indeed did spray me. SO I turn around and head home. Wake my wife with the wonderful news.
He being low to the ground mostly hit the left side of the bike, and me!
I stripped off my clothes on the back porch and went into the shower. Used baking soda and peroxide to wash with. Also to wash the clothes shoes bike bags the bike as best I could etc… I just threw the water bottles away! It works! It is still a major pain to get the smell out of everything! SO I guess this is one for the list of trials and tribulations on the way to 5000 miles!
OIE I hope this never happens again!

3815.5 miles. Doing well… as we enter the colder months I hope I can maintain the resolve to get the miles in! :/

I was going down this stretch I kindof like as it is gently down hill and strait as strait can be. Well, his bike was a hybrid type… you know the larger tire kind. Well I am clipping right along and after the decline came the incline and he passes me on the hill. I think wow he is doing pretty well with that bike and all. So at the next light we head out again and I go out in front. Well down the road a ways he passes me again and says”I know its cheating but my commute is 20 miles so I have to. I only at that moment realize he is riding one of those electric bicycles. Well I respond with “44!” DO you think he understood my response? My commute is roughly 44 miles and change round trip. I have to admit it kindof felt good to be able to say that! :)

Without the commuting to and from work, there would be no way I could do it!

July gone and August upon us! Has been record hi temps here in Denver for somthing like 18 days in a row. New record set from more than 100 years ago or somthing like that. Has been great weather for riding In the early morning and even in late afternoon is ok… It has been HOT!

In following my buddy CJ I crossed the 3000 mile mark yesterday on the way home from work! Yes unlike CJ I still must go to work. :) HE and his “summer of George”, I mean summer of CJ? Well heres to miles and may we all enjoy many more to come! :)
Seen a racoon and a pup fox this morning.

I am glad to report I went over 2500 miles today. I am at 2530.7 miles. I remember in January thinking how cool it will be when I reach these type of milestones along the way. It is great to think I am more than half way there!

PS I think I need new peddles.. somthing is clicking like crazy… I have allready had the crank bearings(cartridge) checked and I don’t see anything else that would make noise like this. ANy thoughts?
