Starting reading The Zahir by Paulo Coehlo.
cratylus has written 7 entries about this goal
Read a couple of stories by Thomas Ligotti . Reminded me a bit of Clarke Ashton Smith. I only found out about him via the blog of steve dekorte
The most disturbing one I read was “The Frolic” – which presented the inner-world of Evil as having a mythic/fairy-like quality. Something which I believe to be totally false, but which nevertheless creeped me out.
Now that torture, gulags and black sites are coming into vogue I thought i’d peruse this
This is like war and peace , but written by foucault
People being arrested in their beds, at the opera , even on the operating table ..
I started re-reading this for fun – I’d forgotten how funny it is. I think one of my fave lines is:
“It was important for him to believe that he’d spent his life among people who kept missing the point.”
i picked up robert heinlein’s “Time Enough For Love”
read the entries from the notebooks of Lazarus Long scattered throughout it , put it down.
still, i like the quotes
my faves:
“Secrecy is the beginning of Tyranny”
and
“The truth of a proposition has nothing to do with its credibility. And vice versa”
