become the best literacy teacher I can

I was hired to teach a canned reading program to 10th graders. Most of them did the program last year, with varying results. This year, I had problems getting the program going, so we read Lord of the Flies. The kids jammed on it. It was a total blast. But now I may be in hot water because we didn’t do the canned program. I am not repentant, though. The kids read a good book and, when we finished, asked what we were reading next. Excelsior!
