I haven’t kept up with this as consistently as I’d like, but I expect I’ll be successful with it before too long. The reason for my confidence comes from a couple of discoveries I’ve made about this particular approach:
The categories and tracking work when I can be non-judgemental about the tracking. It is purely observation and has two nice side effects:
- I am more motivated to do things to add to the journal than guilted into filling in the blanks, and
- I can notice patterns such as areas that are being neglected and at odd moments thing of easy things to do that would at least make some small progress in those neglected areas.
Wish me luck in raising the frequency of consistent tracking!

To help myself feel and be more productive, I’ve broken my responsibilities into seven areas. The idea is to make sure that I do something in each area, each day. In no particular order, they are:
- Self-improvement
- Distilling journal into action items
- Creating habits to implement said action items
- Weekly review of effectiveness of habits
- Writing practice
- Creative writing
- Journaling
- Letter-writing
- Business development
- Develop blogging business
- Develop freelance writing business
- Home care
- Cleaning & House maintance
- Home decorating
- Broaden cooking skills
- Shopping
- Kid care
- Child development reading
- Gaming study
- Making time for sports & games with kids
- Self care
- Reduce calories
- Daily rest
- Daily exercise
- Finance
- Daily accounting
- Weekly review
- Budgeting
That’s the plan, anyhow!

I think the first step to my getting organized will be to read through this:
http://zenhabits.net/2007/09/simple-living-manifesto-72-ideas-to-simplify-your-life/
and do all the thinking exercises… I bet I could free up a lot of time through these simplification techniques and spend my free time doing things that give me much more satisfaction than what I’m doing now…
