of our Playhouse gig

Last night was my first proper gig booked at a bar in town and I had a great night DJing with AB. We played a very eclectic set taking in everything from blues to dubstep to latin to reggae to breakbeat. Turns out the guy who booked us in (we asked him if we could play) shouldn’t have been booking anyone in and he was in a little trouble. BUT in the end we pulled in a good crowd and won the barstaff over, so Owen wasn’t in quite so much trouble. It certainly looks like they’re thinking of having us back again in the future.

This weekend I picked up a bargain on ebay and bought my own decks. Nothing to fancy, just Technics clones from a company I’ve never heard of called Reloop. They seem perfectly fine though. Now I just need to get me own mixer and AB can have all her stuff back.

Just realised I’m DJing this weekend. This weekend is our capoeira batizado and saturday night is a big party. I, at some point said I’d DJ. I’d forgotten all about it until I was reminded at the weekend. I’ve since been fishing through my records during my spare moments looking for brazilian stuff and relistening to it to try and piece together some sort of set. Its very hard with only one deck.

to DJ at the playhouse with my friend AB on 17th December. Unfortuanately I’ve had to give AB one of her decks back so I can’t practice mixing. Not that that’s that important for the Playhouse. It’s a pretty chilled out bar. hmmm christmas is coming up. Time to sweet talk the parents. :)

ok so it’s was a friends party again. But this time is was in a hired hall and with a 2k sound system. Played some top tunes and got plenty of compliments. Made me feel good.

Friends b’day party on saturday. Took my decks round, but mostly so someone else could DJ. hmpf. Then went to pick them up on Monday but it all went tits up. Tuesday night rolls around, claire’s actual birthday and a few of us go out for a quiet drink. As normal with us, we can’t have a quiet drink. All end up going back to claire’s for more drink quickly followed by shouts of “set the decks up”. I do as I’m told and end up DJing for over an hour. Not alot of mixing, but plenty of top tunes. Everyone had a good time.

Spent some of yesterday practising mixing tracks. Have a feeling this is gonna take me awhile. Just when I think I’ve got it the tracks start to gallop and then I just can’t figure out whether the track is too fast or too slow. All the drums get muddled in my head :(

listening to records. Barely half way through the pile. Found some right corkers though. Nearly forgot to eat again. Kept saying to myself I’ll just listen to this last record and then I’ll make some dinner. Did that till 10.

Just borrowed my mates decks and records while they go travelling for 6 months. Spent sunday rearranging my room to fit it all in. Nearly forgot to eat, coz I was so busy playing records.
