Looking Elsewhere

I actually have began applying at restaurants other than my own for serving positions. Today, I went online and applied at 5 different TGIFriday locations.

Feelings Relating to Why I Want to be a Server

Originally Written in my Livejournal

I’m starting to feel like really bored at my job. I feel like I am one of the best cashiers if not THE best. I may have not been there the longest but in terms of the qualities that make a good employee I feel that I have those. The managers always tell me how easy I am to work off and everything. Really, they know they can ask me anything and I’ll say yes even when it’s far from being my job. Usually, I have to pick up the servers slack, but that’s kinda the duty of the cashier, to help anywhere.

But, it makes me wonder… what is in it for me? I don’t want to be selfish but for all my hard work… there’s no pay off. No matter how good of an employee I am I’m still going to make the same amount of money our worse employee. There’s no recgonition for being a good employee like Employee of The Month. In fact, it seems like the bad employees thrive at Sonny’s. The smokers are even given breaks while us non-smokers have no breaks. There’s no chance for raises either… that’s why I want to serve because at least in most cases my hard work will pay off.

I’ve really been thinking about how I can be another company’s best employee for more money and more recgonition. I know the grass isn’t always greener on the other side, but the grass died a long time ago at Sonny’s. I’m not saying I’m going to quit my job, that would be crazy in this economy and all, I’d probably be lucky to even find a second one, but I’m definitely going to keep my eyes and ears open.

Starting to feel aprehensive.

So, I’m starting to feel like it’s never gonna happen. I know it’s been like only 2 days or something but I just found out that the new cashier wants to be a server too. If she becomes a server before me I’m going to go BALLISTIC! I really want to do this so bad.

Breaking the news to my bosses.

So, tonight during my one on one evaluation I broke the news to my managers that I want to train as a server. I don’t think they liked the idea. They definitely prefer me as a cashier, because I am one of the best cashiers we have. I know it and they know it.

However, they told me that when they hire more cashiers I can train to serve. They said that I have to train like a brand new employee for the full four days. I can tell that I’m going to keep bugging them about it, but this is a start!
