Summer versus Winter 3 years ago

Well, I did really well this summer with my electricity. I only ran my ac a couple times, for 15 minutes only. I’m lucky though and have great big trees surrounding my house which keeps it really cool.

Now it’s starting to cool off and I’m hoping I will be able to keep my heat down to a minimum, I’ve always been cold blooded and need heat more than cold, so we’ll see.

Great Job 3 years ago

I just wanted to tell everyone on the team what a great job you’ve all been doing. Sorry I haven’t been around much!

Compost Complete 3 years ago

Was going to spend money purchasing a factory made composter, but instead i took one of my empty dark plastic storage boxes and put holes in the bottom, it hopefully will be a nice little composting box.

Things I should be doing.,., 3 years ago

I have a few housekeeping jobs and i go through alot of chemical cleaners. At home i used to use vinegar mixes only, which can be used for everything (also a lot cheaper!)..but i stopped doing this, just easier to use the chemicals for both places. I would like to elimanate them though.

Buy organic….it’s better for us & the environment, but right now the price is so much more. i’d like to start doing this though. Now that i have my own house and yard i will be starting a garden.

Start a compost-alot of what we throw away could be put here, reducing our trash even more.

Shopping less…as a parent, i usually end up going to target, kmart, etc. at least once a week for various items. I used to go to walmart once a week-but i stopped doing that. i would like to cut that down and look for alternative resources for purchasing household items.

Teaching my gal more about the environment and how it works, teaching her what more we can do to improve it. She knows recycling, but not the why of it.

Things I already do... 3 years ago

Run local Freecycle™ site’s that encourage people to gift their unwanted stuff to others who could use it, thereby reducing waste sent to landfills.

http://www.freecycle.org

Recycle-it’s amazing how much you can reduce your trash!

I used to drive over a hundred miles every other weekend to visit family….so i decided to move closer to home.

I pay alittle extra every month for wind power instead of reg. electric (the electric company than buys whatever amount of electricity you use from the local wind power source); something that everyone in MN can do. Maybe other states also do this?

Some thoughts on the topic 3 years ago

This is something that I’ve been working on for a long time. It’s very important to me, so I’ll contribute my thoughts, ideas, etc. This is also something that doesn’t happen overnight, it takes baby steps and is a long term goal-you’ll always have to be thinking about it when buying a new home, purchasing everyday items, etc.

I checked out the ecofootprint thing alot of the others had entered-it’s a great tool, but it is so general and for such large things that it doesn’t really give you a true answer on your impact. So don’t feel bad if your score sucked!
