“Daisy”, you might say. “You’ve finally lost it. Cults in the White House? Moonies? Are you a…lunatic?” (Luna? Moon? geddit??) Ohhhh, we will have fun, going down this rabbit hole.
They go by so many names, my head spins. Current names for Rev Moon’s church (not including the miriad of businesses, Evangelical Coalitions, and policy research, “Grass Roots”, and educational organizations bankrolled directly and indirectly), include:
The Unification Church
the Holy Spirit Association
Unification of World Churches USA
In fact, whenever you hear the words “Unity”, “Unification”, “non-denominational Christian” when talking about religion, you should hear alarm bells. Oh, and this is one that I didnt know, but seem to be everywhere, “Ambassadors for Peace”. Take a look at the contact page, click around. Moon is everywhere.
In 2004, there was a ceremony in congress for Rev Moon and is lady wife – YES! CONGRESS!!! to be fair, many of the people that attended werent aware that it was a crowning ceremony for the Messiah, and were rather non-plussed about the whole thing.
Rev Moon owns the Washington Times, the mouthpiece of the GOP, the ridiculously right-wing paper purporting to be “fair and balanced” – just like Fox. Moon said that he had “invested” “close to $1 billion” in the paper in the first 12 years, its run at a significant loss throughout its history. Moon has said he wanted to make the newspaper “an instrument to save America and the world.”
The Moon organization provides millions of dollars for conservative political organizations and candidates. It was deeply involved in the anti-communist crusades in Central America during the Reagan years and it paid large sums for “educational” trips for journalists and Congressional staffers, and in the defence of Oliver North during the Iran-Contra affair.
The financially fluid Rev Moon has given over $1 million to Neil Bush’s Ignite! Inc” project (Neil Bush is our dear Prez’s younger brother). Rev Moon arranged and funded a speaking tour for former Prez Bush around Asia. George Snr and Babs can be seen here on video blowing out birthday candles with The Moons at the White House, awwwwwww. They seem quite friendly. Rev Moon seems to be rather more than a passing aquantance to the current President too.
The inocuously named National Parent’s day (USA) established in 1990s was the brainchild of Moon himself (he says so many times, google for “True Parents”). Just in case you didnt know, he and his (4th) wife are supposed to be be the New Adam and Eve that will rebirth humankind or something. Yeah? You don’t believe me? here you go. Oh, and some more.
Moon has given generously to a number of evangelical organizations, including Jerry Falwell’s Liberty University. In fact, most leading evangelicals that have been connected with Moon one way or another. Oh, and many leading republicans too, including a couple of recently indited ones.
Moon and some high-ups in the unification church have done well under Bush’s “faith based initiatives”. The Rev. Moon is behind The American Family Coalition, and various abstinence programs including the Department of Health and Human Services funded Free Teens education group.
Creeped out yet? Apparently Dr. William Bergman, who was once the director of the Unification church, produced a slide program for schools called “The Private Plague: AIDS, Sexually Transmitted Diseases & a Strategy for our Youth at Risk.”
bq.Bergman’s program teaches that these diseases have roots in the “civil rights movement” which allegedly led to “moral relativism.” (Clarkson’s source: The Private Plague slide program manual, p. 23.)
Incidentally, they own the majority of the sushi-grade fish supplied in America, ::Ka-ching!:: damn.
Until recently, I believed that the Moonies just kinda disappeared back in the early 1980s, with Rev Moon in prison for fraud and tax evasion.
According to Larouche, “The most important, and most significant nut-factor, which is a serious threat to our political order, inside the United States, is the Moonies.”
