meet new people

my friend told me about this where you invite 3 of your friends and have each of those people bring someone you don’t know (7 people total). a good number, and a good way to have dinner with semi-strangers. i want to do one soon.

i guess this is one way to meet new people. i think i was set up by my tailor and his wife—with their son. it was kind of awkward, but he was nice enough. not my type, though. too bad, but it was kind of fun to go out.

sometimes it’s not so good. i had a crummy experience this weekend where all of the people had some sort of medical-related job. it’s kind of all they talked about . . . and i felt kinda left out. i just listened for most of the evening. oh well. not that people should go out on a limb to include me in conversation (because that’s kind of awkward), but at least i should try to say something. and i couldn’t.

i’m shy and talk too quietly. i have a hard time meeting people for the first time . . . this is something i’ve got to work on accomplishing.

attended a friend’s social event solo for the first time. i pretty much found people i knew and talked to them since i’m really shy. i think people noticed me when i started whipping the heavy cream for my strawberry shortcakes. food really brings people together. anyway, i met this girl who works at a non-profit. i pretty much just listened, but it was cool to kind of talk to someone absolutely new. she started talking to me because she saw me preparing my dessert . . .

this guy sends me a message on this friendster-type place. i figure just talking can’t hurt, so i do . . . but he’s kinda loopy, asking me questions that are answered on my page. what did he do, just go around searching and sending a mass email to people? weird.

usually my sister meets my friends, but tonight i finally met one of her coworkers over ice cream. nice!
