i just watched eat drink man woman. if that movie doesn’t want to make you learn how to cook chinese food, well, i could also understand how it might make you get takeout all the time, considering how much effort and skill goes on in chinese kitchens.

i called mom and dad today (kinda woke them up) and asked for their advice and recipes for chinese dishes (boiled salted chicken, steamed sponge cake) for my friend’s chinese new year potluck. can’t wait to make the dishes. apparently i’m supposed to buy a chicken with its head and feet still on. ooh!

that i’m chinese and don’t know the cuisine. i’ve been trained in french pastries . . . my parents used to own a chinese restaurant. at least i know what to order in chinese restaurants!
