Had my first impromptu 17 months ago

dinner last night. It was so much fun. My salads were a hit. Everyone thought I should actually open a barbecue cafe. Good Texas (southern) cooking in the wilderness is rare.

They were still calling this morning to emphasis that I have missed my calling. I told them my calling is actually to teach kiddos how to cook like others have taught me. ;)

I adore this time of year! 3 years ago

From Labor Day to Valentines Day my life is filled with celebrations, holidays, birthdays! It is my absolute favorite time of year.

The past few years I down played the special times – they were basically non existent in my home. This year will be totally different!

If people don’t like it they don’t have to play with me. ;)

In the past 3 years ago

I entertained more at home. Simple barbecues, lawn and pool parties…we have become so busy we have lost that art.

The Fall is the perfect time to start doing this – the weather will cool down and it will be a great time to get together with friends again.

Themed dinner parties are fun! 3 years ago

My friends and I used to have them all of the time in the 90’s.

I especially liked was our Great Gatsby Sunday Afternoons dressed all in white, the South of the Border Fiesta with a mariachi band and pinatas, Old fashioned flag waving 4th of July picnics with pie eating contests and 3 legged races and fireworks, Autumns’ Octoberfest, Murder Mystery Dinner Parties…then there is the holiday season!

I think we have been worried so much since 9-11 we have forgotten how to have fun…it will be great to do this again!

We do not entertain 3 years ago

and I am very sad about that.

In my former life I always had people around – lots of children, lots of laughter, lots of spontaneous dinner guests…2 or 20 was never a problem.

Now I spend an exorbinant amount of time alone or just with my significant other. We go to his friend’s home for dinner but never invite anyone to ours.

Truly a case of mistaken identity…I am not a hermit crab.

I am a social butterfly :)

Tuesday is perfect for a Cajun Mardi Gras Dinner! 3 years ago

I love having dinner parties. They are so much more fun than going out to eat. You can have better food and conversation in the privacy of your own home for about half the cost.

We try out recipes. We try new wines. Sometimes we even have themes like murder mystery night or a hawaiian luau. Aloha!
