Make a difference in the wolrd!

I am finally getting back to volunteering. I have not done any major volunteering in months and I truly miss it.

I am so excited about an upcoming opportunity. I have wanted to volunteer or be involved with an ‘organization’ like this one since I can remember. I have been to this location once and its memory has remained with me for years, I can’t wait to go back and actually help in some small way.

I can’t wait to work with Sr. Cathleen making soap! Yep, making soap. That is where they need help right now so that is where I will start. I can’t wait to learn about and experience this!

It will be a weekend here and there, helping as much as can, making a small difference at least (somehow!). I can’t wait to see what this opportunity evolves into. She did mention she is the chair of their fund rasing committee and (after seeing my volunteer resume) wants me to help with grants and fund raising! YAY!

Can’t Wait!!!!!! I’m so looking forward to this!

Well I just checked my work mail and had a wonderful letter from the sponsored child’s mother. She is always so uplifting. Her letters are amazing. The boys LOVED the clothes and activities I sent to them (on behalf of myself and my work).

One thing we sent was a pair of dinosaur print pj’s for each boy and I guess they put them right on and wore them ALL day. :-) How cute is that!?

They boys drew me pictures, they are so adorable. I might have to try to scan them in and post them. :) The letter was so cool. I am so glad I did not put off checking the mail til tomorrow! It made my day. :) I can’t wait til I can work on setting up a travel and college fund for this family. ;-)

Well it’s that time yet again (already!) to send a summer care package to the little boy my work sponsors. They pay for it and I get to communicate with the family and actually do the leg work. I truly enjoy it. Every time I am at the store I find things I want to buy for the family. I have a small budget for them at work, but I contribute some too. I got the list yesterday of what he and his brother needs. It’s so cute, I can’t wait to send it out to him next month. :-)

Well…yet another surprise but this is a good one, really good. I just got a thank you note from the mother of the boy my work sponsors, thanking us for the Christmas gifts. The letter made me cry, but in a beautiful good way.

This week has been so…not even sure of the word. Just amazing really, and full of nice little moments…even with the other not so good moments it’s been a week of growth.

Wow, umm. I just had to tell one of the volunteers that her pen pal passed away. As some of you know I coordinate a program that connects Univ. students with elderly as pen pals.

I feel bad. The volunteer never got to meet her pen pal, she was upset about that. I’m so sorry. I know this won’t be the last time this happens. But I do know the pen pal enjoyed her letters a lot. And the family was thankful for it.

A small group of us got to visit our pen pals. The senior citizens we write to through the letter writing program I started 2 years ago. IT was amazing. My pen pal is adorable. She told me about growing up on a farm, how her husband bought her a red motorcycle..(she’s 95!), how she used to bake wedding cakes and she made her daughters graduation dress. It was just amazing. I really enjoyed it. I think she did too.

The summer package is almost ready to go. And today I spoke with the rep from the school the child goes to and she has invited me out. Its a 12 hour road trip…but wow sounds amazing. I might have to plan a road trip this summer! Do I do this alone or drag someone or ‘someones’ with??

Well so far so good! I was able to purchase several articles of clothing and some craft books AND a gift card. Some co workers are donating more items next week to send to the sponsored child!!! It’s keeping me quite busy and distracted, I’m loving it. Should be mailed within two weeks! And I am working on another project this week, I donate a week a month to Angel Flight and this is my week. Great program. I have spoken with some amazing people this week. I’m thankful for all these opportunites.

Summer Package. I am collecting items to send to the family; a ‘summer package’. I want to send some more clothes and games and craft items!

I have been going through some of life’s plans that happen whether you like it or not lately and found the letter that the family sent me back in Feb. and wow; I just told myself, I have to do something else. I want to put my energy into doing for others, not dwelling on my life and events I have no control over. Yes it’s sad, but I must keep living and doing. So this is a great project to plan! I’m getting excited. (we’ll see how long I stay distracted by this….)

I just received a cute little letter from the family that I have helped sponsor through my work. We sent them Christmas gifts and I have written a couple of letters.

I received a letter from the mother and it was so sweet, brought tears to my eyes. It’s nice to get feedback. I think it’s important to do things with or without feedback, but to rec’v such a sweet letter was amazing. AND it also included two pictures from the boys we sponsor. They are 5 and 6 and the picture are the cutest things ever. It just made my day.
