was my most successful attempt to date. However, it still wasn’t windy enough. The kite stayed high in the air for about 20 seconds before losing altitude and crashing. The wind isn’t constant enough – and that’s even at a renowned kite flying location 40 minutes away from home!
I think the problem in Vancouver is that the only time it’s windy enough to properly fly a kite, it’s also rainy and cold and generally miserable outside. Boo!
Maybe I need a different shape of kite to start with. Mine’s a stunt kite, and the only stunt I can make it do is a nosedive.

the kite video again to get inspired by the song. Maybe if I sing to my kite to encourage it, it will get up in the air faster.

approximately the 4th time I’ve tried to fly my kite. It was windy, I swear! But the wind was too gusty and unreliable, it kept changing directions slightly. Too many buildings and hills around at the park I guess.
Next time I’m going to the beach in a gale force wind – THAT KITE IS GOING UP!!!!!

I think this goal needs to take a little winter holiday…

2nd attempt
FAILURE!
Tried again with a friend. It was a nice day, we got to a different park, got everything set up, and… there was NO wind. None.
I think the problem is that at this time of year in Vancouver, it’s hard to find wind – without copious rain accompanying it.
I guess I need to get a frisbee to keep with my kite. If I take both of them, whether there’s wind or not will dictate which activity I can do.

Fly kite!
OK, easier said than done. We went out, but there wasn’t much wind. I got the kite up, but my boyfriend kept telling me “the kite lady said you shouldn’t have to run with it. Just stand still.”
Needless to say, my kite crashed repeatedly.
Then as we were on the way home, I look at the kite booklet. It says “If there is little wind, you may need to walk or run to keep the kite in the air.” Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr…
Next time, I’m not bringing my boyfriend with me! But I felt better when it turned out he was even worse at flying it than I was, ha ha!
I think this may turn out to be one of the very few things I am good at! IF I manage to stick with it. (And find a better park next time with better wind dynamics i.e. a beach)

yesterday it was sunny all morning, then by noon when I got outside a huge storm blew in and it poured rain for the rest of the day. So no kite flying.
Today I have a lot of reading and homework to do for my classes. It’s 1pm now, so if I read for the next…3 hours, then I will (weather-permitting) take a kite-flying break.

Get a kite. CHECK!
:-)
This is my kite (the promo photo, not an actual photo – mine hasn’t been in the air yet)

Since my student loan still hasn’t arrived (only a month late already, grrr!) and my birthday is imminent…
My new plan this week has been to lobby hard to get a kite for my birthday :-)
If I do get one, it had better not rain this weekend!!!
