On the Waterfront 2 weeks ago

It was a great movie. I really enjoyed it, and would definitely watch it again.

How to Steal a Million 3 months ago

I watched this 2 nights ago – Audrey Hepburn and what’s his name… Peter O’Toole, I think? It was an entertaining movie but it was on from 1-3am, and I just couldn’t stay awake to watch the last half hour.

I suspect that it had a happy ending, romantically and klepto-ically (ha – I made a new word).

Chinatown 5 months ago

With Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway.

There’s something about Faye Dunaway. I can’t decide if I like or dislike her as an actress. She’s quite intriguing somehow. I guess that’s good.

Watched 11 months ago

Adam’s Rib with Hepburn and Tracey, The Thomas Crown Affair with McQueen and what’s her name (it was good but I like the new one better), and The Barefoot Contessa is in the DVD player right now.

Cool Hand Luke 14 months ago

To me this film was about following the leader, creating heroes and icons. What is it about the human psyche that we need to believe in heroes so badly (even when the hero knows that he is not a hero, and tries to discourage us)?

Interesting film.

The Manchurian Candidate 14 months ago

is in the DVD player…

Not a film, but 14 months ago

Bibliomania has loads of classic books available to read online.

I just read Emma, and then I started the first chapter of Uncle Tom’s Cabin. Uh-oh. A new way to procrastinate – exactly what I don’t need!

It’s a bit uncomfortable to read an entire novel on a computer screen, however.

Saw 2 years ago

The Graduate (except the 20 min at the end when my DVD player freaked out.)

Bonnie and Clyde (again, missed the last 5 minutes due to spazzy DVD player).

I guess the good thing about classic movies is that even if you miss the end, it’s not hard to find out what happened. Sigh :-(

A Streetcar Named Desire 2 years ago

Mixed feelings about this one – but then again, that’s probably the writer’s intention. While I don’t get angry and break things, I did often feel like slapping that silly, manipulative woman as I watched this movie.

In the end I felt sorry for every single character in the play (movie). What a mess.

I’d definitely watch it again.

Singin' in the Rain 2 years ago

To be honest, I thought this was going to be an annoying movie, but I (mostly) enjoyed it. There was one singing and dancing part that just went on too long and wasn’t at all relevant, I thought, and the Technicolor colours were jarringly um… “primary”, but all in all I liked it and would watch it again. Loved the costumes.
